In 1929, Pelikan was the first company in the world to introduce the differentiated piston mechanism. To this day, this type of fountain pen exists in many different variants, and although it has evolved in design and technical details over time, the basic mechanism remains the same.

In 1950, Pelikan launched the Model 400. With its green striped sleeve, it has become a world-famous symbol of the Pelikan brand. In the eighties, the series was renamed Souverän, although popular parlance has begun to call it by its nickname Stresemann, as the Secretary of State of the ‘Weimar Republic’ was known for his striped suits.

The production of the sleeve is very labour-intensive. According to a special Pelikan recipe, the raw material cotton is processed through many different steps until it is formed into a striped sheet. It is then moulded into the correct shape, cut and polished with a diamond. If you love classics, then you need a Souverän writing instrument!

The M1000 model is filled with bottled ink and has an 18k gold-plated nib and 24-carat gold-plated details on the pen body. The nib is refined with a rhodium decoration and its writing properties are tested by hand.

Size: 14.6 cm closed / 17.4 cm open with the cap at the back. Weight: 34.1 g without ink.
