We have got the stuff if you want to get started with BuJo, Bullet Journaling.
First of all, what is Bullet Journaling? Bullet Journaling (or BuJo) is something great if you absolutely love writing lists, planning, structuring and above all never want to forget an important meeting or something as simple as the laundry booking appointment. You simply shape your very own calendar, your creative notepad or maybe your private diary. Make space for everything you need to do during the week, the days or the hours. Activities are saved and thoughts are written down, all in one place. Your life changes from week to week and so does your calendar! So what do you really need in the starter kit?
What do you need to get started with bullet journaling?
Start by asking yourself why you want to start with Bullet Journaling, apart from the fact that it is one of the funniest things to do and a trend that has practically exploded in Sweden the last few years.
Why not put down all your lists and get a little bit more structured? Do you feel that a standard calendar does not suit you and your lifestyle? Or do you want to get help remembering that brilliant idea you got during a meeting? All this you can get by starting with bullet journaling.
Step 1 – Find the right notebook
You will need a Bullet Journal, usually a notebook with dot-patterned paper. It is true that glossy pages also may work, but it is much easier to draw lines with the help of the pages' dot pattern. Below we have listed some suggestions and favorites!
Leuchtturm1917 Bullet Journal
This is the perfect book for BuJo! It has dot-patterned paper. Size: A5. Contains a guide for Bullet Journaling in English. 240 numbered pages, expandable pocket, 3 side marker stickers, elastic band, stickers for marking and archiving, acid-free and blood-free paper. Leuchtturm Bullet Journal is available in several different colors - pick your favorite!
Rhodia Goalbook
GoalBook from French Rhodia is also a notebook with dot-patterned paper in A5. Contains numbered pages and 2 perpetual calendars. The ultimate tool if you are getting started with Bullet Journaling! Sides with light off-white and smooth surface that is extremely suitable for flowing pencils without bleeding through. Good binding, cover in imitation leather, orange cord and inner pocket. Amazing paper quality, strong velvety texture paper from Clairefontaine.
Moleskine Dotted
... is not specifically made for Bullet Journaling but fits perfectly! Moleskine is the most famous manufacturer of notebooks and a classic choice. Their books with dotted paper are very well suited for Bullet Journaling. This also applies to other notebooks with dotted paper, e.g. Lighthouse A5 Dotted or Rhodia Webnotebook A5 Dotted.
Step 2 – Find your favourite pens
Pens, pens, pens - This is HOW the magic happens! You decide how you want to shape your Bullet Journal. Should it be stylish, simple and one-colored? Maybe you want color and frills in every corner instead? No matter what, you need tools in the form of pencils (kind of our favorite subject, as you probably understand). We have listed some of our favorites below to help you get started.
Stabilo Point 88 Fineliners
Stabilo's fineliner Point 88 - also suitable for BuJo! Unique hexagonal shape and metal-reinforced extra fine tip for thin lines (0.4 mm), writing and details. The tip is extra-long and is therefore also suitable for rulers and templates. Water-based paint that does not bleed through in the first place. Can be left without a cap for some time without drying!
Tombow ABT Dual Brush Pen
This is the favourite pen according to Pen Store's BuJo customers! It is also the one that is most commonly used. Tombow ABT Dual Brush Pen has two tips: a fine tip (perfect for small details, lines and the like) and a flexible brush tip (very soft and flexible but at the same time durable). The tombow pens are water-based and odorless, non-toxic and acid-free. A must for Bullet Journaling!
Zebra Mildliner
Mildliner from the Japanese brand Zebra is the favourite pen according to many BuJo practitioners! The pen is water-based and has two tips: one wide and one thin. Comes in beautiful pastel colors and provides a smooth touch. Another good thing about these is that they do not bleed through the paper, even if the paper is slightly thinner. In other words, the perfect pen!
