Clairefontaine
Clairefontaine is a French paper manufacturer with a history dating back to 1863. The brand is known for its high-quality papers, pads and notebooks and has become a favourite among artists, illustrators, students and anyone who appreciates really good paper. The difference between papers becomes clear when writing, drawing or painting, and Clairefontaine places great emphasis on the surface, texture and quality of its paper.
Paper production is a central part of Clairefontaine’s identity. The company manufactures its own paper in France, giving it control over the entire process from paper pulp to finished paper. Production follows strict French environmental standards, and Clairefontaine continuously works to combine high paper quality with more responsible production.
For drawing and sketching, Clairefontaine offers a wide range of sketch pads, drawing pads and artists’ papers. Different papers are developed for different materials and techniques, from graphite, charcoal and coloured pencils to ink, markers and other drawing materials. Choosing the right surface texture and paper weight helps you find a paper that better complements the materials you work with.
Clairefontaine also offers papers and pads for wet techniques such as watercolour, gouache, acrylic and mixed media. One popular range is Clairefontaine Paint’ON, featuring heavier papers developed for creatives who enjoy combining different techniques and materials. The range is available with different surfaces and paper colours, providing plenty of opportunities to experiment with both style and technique.
Notebooks are another major part of the Clairefontaine range. The brand is particularly appreciated for its smooth writing paper, which provides a pleasant writing experience and works well with many different types of pens.
