Derwent
Derwent is a British manufacturer of artists’ pencils and art materials with roots in the Lake District in England. Pencils have been manufactured here since 1916, and the brand launched its first coloured pencil in 1938. More than a century of experience in pencil making has made Derwent a well-known name among artists, illustrators and creatives around the world.
Coloured pencils are a central part of the Derwent range, with several collections offering different properties for different techniques and styles. Derwent Coloursoft are soft coloured pencils with rich colour, ideal for building up layers, blending shades and creating intense areas of colour. For artists who place high demands on lightfastness, Derwent Lightfast offers professional coloured pencils developed for artwork designed to retain its colours over time.
One of Derwent’s most popular ranges is Inktense. Derwent Inktense combines the control of a pencil with intense, water-soluble colour. The pencils can be used dry or activated with water to create vibrant areas of colour, washes and painterly effects. Inktense is also available in other formats, allowing you to explore the same distinctive colour properties using different techniques.
Derwent is also known for its watercolour pencils and other water-soluble pencils. Graphitint combines the character of graphite with subtle colour tones that change and intensify when mixed with water. The range also includes Metallic for those who want to work with shimmering effects and colours that stand out particularly well on darker paper.
What characterises Derwent is the breadth of pencils with different properties. By combining traditional pencil making with continuous product development, the brand has created ranges that allow you to explore everything from classic colouring and drawing to water-soluble techniques and experimental effects.
