Sennelier Oil Stick is an expressive oil paint in stick form, giving the artist great freedom and making it possible to paint directly with more spontaneity than traditional tube oil paint. These artist-quality oil crayons are made from high-quality oil paint in solid form, with part of the oil replaced by mineral wax. This gives them a soft, smooth consistency with a high pigment load and good lightfastness.

The oil crayons can be used on several types of primed supports, such as canvas, canvas boards, laminated panels and paper. For best results, the paint should be applied in thin layers of no more than about 1 mm, so the surface can build up evenly and with control.

The layers can be built up on top of one another in the same way as with traditional oil paint, and if needed the paint can be thinned with petroleum or turpentine. Before use, the thin surface skin should be removed, as it will reform after a few days of non-use. The applied paint normally dries within 2 to 5 days, depending on layer thickness, support and surrounding conditions.

Once fully dry, the artwork can be varnished in the same way as ordinary oil paint.
